Scottish First Footing

We want to thank everyone who joined us over the years to ring in the new year.  BARC proudly presented the Annual Scottish First Footing.  It was one of a handful of such events left in the United States.  We rang in the New Year with the Frederick Pipes and Drums beautiful selection of songs.  At the stroke of Midnight, Auld Lang Syne was  played to welcome the New Year.  There was a traditional Scottish Blessing to the City of Brunswick and all who attend.  It was a free family friendly event.  If you loved the event, do contact the City of Brunswick to ask if they would consider taking on this event.  We wish you and all those you hold dear the happiest of New Years!

The tradition says, if the first person to cross your threshold on New Year’s Eve is a a man, it will bring good luck.  If the man has red hair, its even luckier.  The man brings a bottle, a cake, and a lump of coal to ensure that there will be plenty to drink, eat, and enough heat throughout the New Year.
